MSR Dupe from Decathlon that has Some UNIQUE Features | Forclaz MT500 Mesh Dome Trekking Tent
In this video, we want to review a new to us tent model from Forclaz - the 2 person MT500 Mesh Dome Trekking Tent. We have a long history with this brand, as our very first camping adventures were made with a tent from Forclaz. We have many fond memories from those times and you can easily find a review of that first tent of ours on our channel. Since then, a lot has changed, and the brand now offers many cool models of tents in our opinion. And here’s one of them. We are going to share its characteristics, performance, set up and special features it has, as well as the pros and cons we found.

    for its price this tent is superbe, you can split the weight, leave the rain sheet and some of the pegs to bring down the weight to 1.4 kilo. you can use a decathlon hamock during daytimes for shadow or night for discretion, 500 grams + only instead of 1kg for the rain sheet , and you have no problems finding the insects

    Good overview, guys. The tent look like it would be good for ventilation, what with that hidden inner flap, which is what's needed in humid climates. Personally, I'd have preferred an earth-toned fly than the non-descript grey for stealth camping purposes, however that could be achieved via camo netting. That weight is also disappointing, but if there were two of you someone could take the tent whilst the other carry other items in compensation. I may have to consider this going forward, so thanks for bringing it to my attention. Cheers! 🍻

    This sleeping bag is quite good for the summer. Weight and size are a plus. Interesting idea with the two zippers. I wish more RUclipsrs promoted synthetic summer sleeping bags. They cost little, are good in weight and volume. Many people who enter the world of hiking immediately buy a 3-season sleeping bag. They will only go there in the summer and they will have to carry a 1.5 kg sleeping bag which will take up a half-backpack and which will be too warm anyway. You mention stinking down. A lot depends on the manufacturer and quality. What quality down did he buy and how did he clean it before production.

    i happened to have this setup and i can confirm it works well. the tent is so good and so cheap. it takes some space but that is it. the sleeping matress tend to loose air sometimes but ok its still working. the sleeping bag is little but tends to be cold so make sure you don't use it in the alps or stuff like that, even in summer... i think this is the killer startink kit, just buy it all, save so much money, don't worry whats gone break or not and buy better stuff if you think it is not enough or if you want to upgrade...

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld 12 дней назад

      Amazing to hear that you have the same kit shown in the video and share your experience with it, it is much appreciated! Agree about the sleeping bag suitable only for warm summer weather, the comfort temperature should be the main indicator. You sum it up very well, saying that it's a great starter kit with which you won't break the bank and won't worry about things breaking. Although we usually didn't have any bad quality issues with Decathlon stuff. It gets ruined only with time but overall holds up pretty well.

    I have the 1 person version for bike-packing and love it for all the reasons you show in your video. It’s light, warm, airy, waterproof ( in rainy UK) and keeps my bike bags, shoes and helmet dry in the single vestibule. I use the footprint which only adds 250g for the 1 person tent. 1.4kg with footprint. I can also cook in the vestibule when it’s pouring with rain. This makes it a luxury compared to the bivvy bags or some lighter 1 person tents used by friends. I agree that the 2 person version is cramped for 2 and am looking at the 3 person version for me and my husband. I have heard a lot of complaints re getting spares and repairs for MSR outside of the US and the Decathlon guarantee is 5 years compared to 3 years for MSR. I’m very impressed with the well thought out features of my Forclaz 1 person tent 😊 I’m leaning towards the Forclaz 3 person dome over the MSR Mutha Hubba for value and durability.

    • @WalkingNatureWorld
      @WalkingNatureWorld 12 дней назад

      Awesome to hear about your experience with this tent, thanks for sharing! It is a very decent tent for its category, we were also quite impressed by it. What is your opinion about footprint in the vestibules? It was one of our concerns. On one side it can useful and on the other you may not want to have it in some situations. The limited space was another disadvantages for us, 3 person version would be nice but for hiking it adds up quite a bit of weight then. For bike trips it may be an option. Hubba Hubba is still on our list to try but because of it being pricey we weren't able to invest in it yet.

      That's hard to say, as you ideally need to try it on in the store to see if it fits, it depends on your height a lot. Overall there is a reason why they make it men and women fit, it proved to be more comfortable if you follow it in our experience. Dima carried a women's fit pack for some time at first as we weren't aware that such thing existed as different gender's fit but it actually made a huge difference in the end. Hope it helps.

      Jetboil seems to be the main role model, hope to test it too one day

    Why Nano 2? Compare Mini vs. Nano, they are in same cathegory.

      Maybe they came out with the new models, we are not aware of it. Nano 2 was a warmer version for us of Mini, that's why we bought it

    I like it, but it might be tipable with any heavy food on top. I have a Coleman stand cooker and find I have to be careful of it tipping as well. I know what you mean about lighting it as the propane burns so clear that you might not know it's lit. I have flat propane/butane stove that I would use for larger cooking pots. I do like that it holds all parts inside.

      Thanks for sharing your experience with it and some useful tips! So far we have been pretty happy about its performance except things mentioned in the video review.
